Family Sensory Garden Walk

1:00 pm

A garden is a feast for the senses! Blithewold invites the whole family to experience the beauty and life of the garden—not only with their eyes, but with their ears, fingers, toes, and nose! Join us in celebrating the wonderful world of plants — their fragrances, sounds, colors, textures, tastes, and movement.
In our Sensory Walk around the grounds, horticulturists Gail Reed and Tricia Bailey will help us uncover all of these horticultural sensory delights. Participants will be able use all five of their senses as they touch and smell and explore the many plants, trees, and shrubs that we will encounter on our walk.

The tour will begin at the Rose Garden, please wear comfortable walking shoes. We will explore our sense of taste by enjoying some fresh-from-the garden refreshments at the end of our walk.

  • Mid-summer shift (Jul 11, '14)
The gardens are going through a bittersweet transition from June’s hurrah to a mid-summer huzzah, and although we sometimes experience a “July gap,” the shift seems pretty seamless this year. Delicate oxeye daisies gave way almost overnight to beefy Shastas, echinaceas, and rudbeckias. Sturdy summer phlox are taking over, as we speak, for the elegance […]
