Artist Workshop: Judit Kollo - Music of the Winds: Sculpture Embraces Horticulture

WHEN: Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 9:00AM - 12:00PM
WHERE: Meet at the Visitors Center

The coast of New England provides sometimes gentle, sometimes strong ocean winds. But wind is more than just a natural phenomenon. It is one of the greatest song writers of all times and to hear its songs we only need to know how to listen.

Join artist Judit Kollo as she teaches us how to appreciate the Music of the Wind. Students will make wind chimes and wind instruments by combining pre-fired pottery and ceramics beads with shells found on the beach. As they put their chimes together, students will gain insight into the structural mechanism of the wind instruments, learning to tune it to their own taste and thus come up their personal translation of wind into gentle melodies.

This workshop will take place in an outdoor studio space on the grounds.

Israel (known in the family as Izzie) was Bessie McKee’s older brother and became Marjorie Van Wickle’s favorite Uncle. Izzie and Anne had joined the family of their father’s friend, Dr. […]
  • Daffodil Bliss (Apr 22, '16)
Daffodil Days here at Blithewold are in full swing.  The soft, sweet fragrance of the flowers wafts toward me whenever I walk near the Bosquet.  It’s positively enticing!  I could wax poetic about each daffodil variety we have here, but I thought it would be better to let them speak for themselves.  So, in lieu […]
