Blithewold, an American Garden Treasure

Blithewold is a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay and is nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place Era. The property features a 45-room mansion filled with family heirlooms, and is framed by a series of lovely gardens that range in character from mysterious to exotic and from poetic to practical. An exceptional collection of rare and unusual plants, specimen trees, an accessible greenhouse, and whimsical stonework project a character that is romantic, fresh, and inspiring – and unique to Blithewold.

Camp Sequoia: April Camp

April 17 to April 21, 9 am - 3 pm
Making plans for the upcoming April school vacation week? Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum is offering a fun-filled week of camp during April Vacation. Enroll your child for the full week or one day, or even a few half days! We have so much to celebrate this week at Blithewold! No child will want to miss an opportunity to play with friends and explore Blithewold’s daffodil wonderland.

“A Blithewold Wedding” Opening Night Cocktail Party

Friday, April 7, 6 – 8 pm
Join us! The menu is set and the complimentary glass of sparkling wine will be on ice alongside a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres by Russell Morin Fine Catering. Enjoy a fabulous evening of food, friends, family, and fellow garden club enthusiasts to get a first look at the stunning flower show. All proceeds benefit the Barrington Garden Club.

Spring Afternoon Tea

Tuesday – Friday from April 11th – May 5th
The Dining Room at Blithewold has always been a place where fine meals have been served to cherished guests. Today friends gather and exchange stories while delighting in a cup of tea, freshly baked scones with sweet cream, and a 3-tiered tray filled with sweet and savory treats. Simply luxurious! We invite you into Blithewold’s Dining Room for Tea.

The Van Wickle family hosted many parties and celebrations at Blithewold. One of the most notable celebrations was Marjorie Van Wickle and George Lyon’s wedding, which took place on June 1, 1914, in an elegant outdoor ceremony in Blithewold’s Enclosed Garden.
