Blithewold is a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay and is nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place Era. The property features a 45-room mansion filled with family heirlooms, and is framed by a series of lovely gardens that range in character from mysterious to exotic and from poetic to practical. An exceptional collection of rare and unusual plants, specimen trees, an accessible greenhouse, and whimsical stonework project a character that is romantic, fresh, and inspiring – and unique to Blithewold.

WEEKDAY TRAFFIC/ROAD CLOSURE: Ferry Road in Bristol is closed to local traffic only until December 15, 2017. Anyone traveling over the Mt. Hope Bridge, north or south Route 136, or south on Route 114 should allow for 15 minutes of extra travel time AND access Ferry Road through Griswold Avenue off of Rt. 136.

There will be a road sign stating road closed, but you can go through the cones and proceed down Griswold. Turn left at the stop sign onto Ferry Road. Blithewold is 1/2 mile on the right.

Join us for a festive evening of artisanal 1920s-inspired classic cocktails with a holiday twist!
Willa Van Nostrand, certified mixologist and owner of Little Bitte Artisanal Cocktails, will demonstrate how to make and serve specialized recipes featuring small-batch spirits, cordials, haus bitters, fresh pressed juices and edible blossoms. Guests will enjoy nibbles to accompany the cocktails and will take home inspiration for their own holiday soirées, using the highest-quality ingredients to make the most delicious and aesthetically pleasing cocktails imaginable.

The Van Wickle family hosted many parties and celebrations at Blithewold. One of the most notable celebrations was Marjorie Van Wickle and George Lyon’s wedding, which took place on June 1, 1914, in an elegant outdoor ceremony in Blithewold’s Enclosed Garden.
