 Afternoon Tea Manager (part-time seasonal paid position)

Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum has opened a search for a Kitchen Manager for their extremely  successful Afternoon Tea program. This part-time, seasonal position (20-30 hrs per week in April and December) reports to the Director of Communications and Visitor Experience and would be responsible for the overall operations for the kitchen area of Blithewold during Afternoon Tea. The kitchen manager would manage a volunteer staff, purchase food and stock, and make sure everyone is trained on proper food preparation and kitchen safety techniques. In addition, the kitchen manager would ensure that Blithewold's standard of hospitality is upheld: the food is beautiful and is cooked properly, the proportions are correct, and it is cooked and served quickly. This position is also responsible for kitchen and storeroom cleanliness, food is disposed of properly and the kitchen meets all sanitary standards.

Our kitchen manager is responsible for managing food and labor cost, doing their best to optimize profit for Blithewold while creating and maintaining the best Afternoon Tea experience possible for our visitors.

Communication & Leadership Skills
Blithewold's kitchen manager must be the leader in the back of house
Be able to support, encourage and motivate people of all levels, while remaining calm, patient and polite.
Kitchen managers need to accurately and easily communicate standards and cooking methods to our volunteer staff. Guiding by example and giving frequent feedback to others


Customer Service
This position is expected to interact with guests. Being friendly and courteous.
Be friendly, smiley, sociable and welcoming to our customers, in keeping with Blithewold's standard of quality and hospitality
Remain calm, patient and polite, if receiving customer feedback
Be helpful and go out of your way to help our customers


Attention to Detail
The Kitchen Manager needs maintain a keen attention to detail; to be consistently aware of many elements: food standards, costs, safety, etc.


Management Skills
The Kitchen managers not only deal with food, they also have to deal with labor costs and food pricing


Organizational Skills
Keeping work food procurement, shipments, cleaning schedules is crucial to the job.


Problem-Solving Skills
Dealing with conflict is part of a kitchen managers job. Being able to come up with a solution quickly is a necessary skill.

Requirements: A minimum of an Associates degree in Food Service, Hospitality or Culinary, or at least 3 years relevant professional experience. This position pays $15 per hour. Graphic Design Internship

Description:
Application Deadline: Available Year-round
Position: Part-Time, Unpaid

Aid in the formation of multiple graphic design projects; aid in the formation of posters, programs, and pamphlets.

Responsibilities:
Minimum of 10-15 hours per week.

Requirements:
GPA of a 3.0 or better. Must be organized, responsible, and prompt with the ability to multi-task and work independently.

Background in graphic design is necessary. Knowledge of computer programs is preferred, such as Adobe Creative Suite. Indoor and outdoor signage.

Marketing Communications/Public Relations Internship

Description:
Application Deadline: Available Year-round
Position: Part-Time, Unpaid

Responsibilities Public Relations: help create and implement marketing and communications plan, develop promotional opportunities for events, write and distribute press releases.

Marketing Communications: write, research, and help prepare monthly eNewsletters, assist with copy for brochures, website, and other promotional materials.

Database Management: Assist in ongoing maintenance and enhancement of current contact management data & press lists for targeted markets.
Responsibilities:

Hours: Minimum of 15 hours per week

Requirements:
Qualifications GPA: 3.0 or better with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The intern must be able to interact with a wide range of people from the arts/cultural, business, civic, academic, and public relations communities in an articulate and professional manner.
Must be organized and able to multi-task and work independently; must be responsible and on-time.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required, some website management experience preferred. Some graphic design experience and/or familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite recommended.

Intern to the Executive Director of Blithewold Mansion, Gardens &
Arboretum


Description:
Time Frame: Spring 2015 or Summer 2015
Position: Part-Time, Unpaid
Minimum of 4-5 hours per week hours per week, some evenings & weekends.

Responsibilities:
-Respond to correspondence via email or letter.
-Prepare and write letters for the Executive Director.
-Prepare mailings and organize mailing lists as directed using excel database.
-Develop and prepare sponsorship materials/solicitations for large events.
-Prepare brochures/mailers that are graphically interesting and appealing.
-Organize luncheons/teas including table prep and serving.
-Schedule meetings and appointments as necessary/requested.
-Solicit individuals for donations to silent auction for large 2016 gala event.
-Attend meetings and prepare and distribute meeting minutes as directed.
-Answer phones as needed for the organization and Executive Director.
Requirements:

Excellent verbal communication and writing skills required. In addition, candidate must possess exceptional organizational and “attention to detail” skills. Position hours are flexible and ideal candidate will have between 4-5 hours per week to perform duties. Previous experience with graphic design, excel mail merge, and social media outlets required.

Volunteer Coordinator Internship

Blithewold is a volunteer-driven organization. Our Visitor Center/Gift Shop, Mansion, Gardens & programs are largely staffed by a talented family of volunteers. Interns will assist the Volunteer Manager to support the many volunteers who contribute their time to Blithewold. Recruiting potential volunteers and community outreach development. We are looking for a hardworking, reliable person who is incredibly organized with an outgoing, friendly personality.
Responsibilities:
Minimum of 10-15 hours per week, some evenings & weekends.
Volunteer communications, outreach and recruitment Coordinate monthly update meetings and training;
Requirements:
GPA of a 3.0 or better. Experience and desire to work with people of all ages & from diverse backgrounds. Must posses strong communication skills, be well-organized, responsible and prompt with the ability to multi-task and work independently. Community Service or museum background a plus.
