Why should I donate?

Because Blithewold is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely primarily on charitable donations, admissions, membership, and other earned income to support the significant expenses associated with maintaining, preserving, and sharing Blithewold with others. Please consider a gift to Blithewold’s Annual Fund to support and preserve:

• A nationally significant garden estate representative of the interpretation of the Arts and Crafts movement taking place in America in the late 19th century.
• A rare collection of more than 3,500 trees and shrubs from all over the world.
• An intact collection of letters, journals, artwork, and family pieces that trace the social history of one family over 100 years.
• A haven for wildlife, including migratory raptors and pollinating species such as honeybees and hummingbirds.
• 33 acres of protected “open-space” with a ¼ mile shoreline.
• Diverse educational and recreational programming for children, teens, adults, and seniors.

What does my donation do?

We depend on annual gifts and are enormously grateful to our donors who know that every gift matters and every dollar counts! See how far your contribution can go:

• $50 plants 10 annuals in the Display Gardens.
• $150 purchases all the seeds and seedlings for the Vegetable Garden.
• $250 replaces one of 12 trees lost this year to time, windstorms, or drought, and maintains Blithewold’s diverse woody plant collection.
• $500 purchases historic garden ornaments to enhance the Container Garden under the Arbor and the Plant Display in the Breakfast Porch.
• $1,000 covers the costs of spraying trees on Lovers Lane for destructive winter moths.
• $2,500 sponsors restoration of one of Bessie Van Wickle McKee’s 75 handmade gowns representing early 20th-century fashion design and the finest craftsmanship by seamstresses in New York and Paris.
