We’ll teach you how to create beautiful and unique flower arrangements. This class can be tailored to your groups particular interests and abilities. We partner with a variety of floral arrangers which makes it easy for us to create a custom program. Instructor & materials fee and limits on group size will depend on your group.

Ideas include:

Growing a Cutting Garden (90 minutes) – Meet our Garden Guide in Blithewold’s Cutting Garden, where we will share what we like to grow for cut flowers. Highlighting cutting-garden annuals and discussing planting plans; a walk around the property will highlight a variety of flowers worthy to be cut and brought into the home. The cutting bed comes into its own in July through September. September is our garden staff’s favorite time in the cutting garden—the flowers are so exuberant! And, it’s a great time to demonstrate cutting techniques as well as the possibilities for favorite foliage cuts.

Workshop Fee: $20 per person in addition to Group Tour admission rate
Group Size: up to 15 participants

Basic Flower Arranging (1 – 1 ½ hours): This hands-on workshop will teach you the basic techniques in selecting, preparing and arranging flowers. At the end of the session you will have a lovely arrangement to take home.

Group Size: up to 10 participants per instructor
Workshop Fee: $60 per person (includes materials)

Arranging with Summer Peonies ( 90 minutes) Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will learn natural floral design techniques that evoke the colors, textures and forms of the season.  A tour of the property gardens will provide educational inspiration for your own creation.
Months Offered: May and June
Group Size: up to 15 participants
Workshop Fee (Materials, instruction and light refreshments included) $95 per person

Learn (or renew) basic techniques of watercolor painting on postcard sized sheets to capture scenes of beautiful Blithewold. Bring a camera. Some drawing experience required.

Prerequisite: Some drawing experience
Group Size: 10 – 12 people

Individual Workshop Fee: $25 (includes you-get-to-keep supplies)

Sketching Tour of Blithewold

Capture the beauty of Blithewold on this sketching tour after a quick review of drawing techniques such as shading, contour drawing and use of negative space. Create several quick sketches or one detailed sketch on the grounds of this lovely estate. Bring a camera. Some drawing experience required.
