Please join the fun and show off your creative whimsy! Create a prize-winning cozy winter home for the fairies who live in your yard, and temporarily share it with Blithewold’s fairer (and tinier) residents for a friendly competition.

Here’s how it works:

Fairy House Workshop students receive automatic entry into the competition. There is a $15 fee required for non-workshop participant entries. Public voting for the favorite Fairy House will take place between Saturday, October 17th and the final judging on Saturday, October 24th during our Wonder Wold: Celebration of Trees event. After the judging you will be welcome to bring your new Fairy House home. 

Fairy House Competition Dates:

  • Non-Workshop Participant Drop-off: Friday | October 16 | 12 – 4 PM
  • Fairy House Workshops: Saturday | October 17 | 10 AM and 1 PM
  • Judging: Saturday | October 24 | 3 PM
  • Pick-up: Saturday | October 24 | 4:30 PM

Fairy House Competition Rules:

  • Participants must be 18 years old or older.
  • Only local and natural materials are allowed (make sure to forage legally and sustainably!).
  • The use of super glue and hot glue is permitted as the fairy houses must be able to withstand New England weather for a week during the voting period.
  • Any structure used as the base of the fairy house must be no larger than 15”. Participants of the Fairy House Workshop will be utilizing 15” wood rounds as their base.
  • Entries will be placed in the designated area on the East Lawn no later than 4 PM, Friday, October 16. Participants of the Fairy House Workshop will be allowed to place their submissions in the designated area after their workshop session on October 17 prior to 4 PM.
  • Judging will take place at 3 PM on Saturday, October 24 during our Wonder Wold: Celebration of Trees event.
  • All entries should be picked up after the judging by 4:30 PM on Saturday, October 24.
