Nothing enriches the soul quite like an afternoon walk surrounded by beautiful autumnal colors! Join Joe Verstandig, the Living Collections Manager at Newport Tree Conservancy (and former Blithewold staff member), for a tree walk centered around the numerous maple cultivars at Blithewold. Be inspired by the variety of colors and habitats where these beautiful trees can grow—from vibrant landscape specimens to options that are perfectly happy in a container.

Appropriate for ages 12 and up. Tour is limited to 20 people.

About the Speaker: Joe graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2017 with a B.S. in ornamental horticulture. While in college, he interned at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York, as a gardener. During his schooling at URI, Joe worked part-time in the University Botanical Garden, where he fell in love with woody plants. After school, Joe worked as a full-time horticulturist at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum for three years, helping maintain world-class gardens. In March 2026, Joe celebrated five years with the Newport Tree Conservancy. Joe lives in Providence and enjoys active hobbies.
