Beekeeping: A Year in the Life of a Hive
Friday, April 27
10:30 – 11:30 am

Blithewold’s beekeepers, Mark Hilyard and Kevin Kennedy will be on-site to give a talk that discusses the beekeeping process, an overview of a year in the life of a beehive, and what makes Blithewold a special place for keeping bees. Guests will have the opportunity to explore beekeeping equipment and weather permitting, walk out to the apiary to view the hives from a safe distance. No special gear is required.

About the speakers: Mark and Kevin are hobbyist beekeepers who have been managing the hives at Blithewold for the past 4 years and have had the opportunity to observe how our hives respond to the different seasons at the estate over a given year. Mark is a hydrogeologist who also teaches courses related to the natural sciences at Bristol Community College and at Southern New Hampshire University. Kevin is a human resources director at a local company and leads many educational and training programs for the Boy Scouts of America.
