Looking for an adventure to explore and discover the natural world of Blithewold? Our backpacks contain all the activities and supplies needed to engage your family in a fun-filled, memorable learning experience. Inspired by years of providing environmental programs for visitors, our Education staff developed the Nature Discovery Backpacks to help your kids engage with nature and learn about Rhode Island’s birds, insects, and plants. Each backpack has a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and Life Science activities. Remember to dress for the weather and bring a sunhat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle.

Each pack contains:
- 2 books
- A magnifying glass
- Pair of Binoculars
- The tools needed to complete the activities
- AND a booklet filled with fun activities – to take home
Tuesday through Sunday
Pick up from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Welcome Center
- Non-members must purchase admission for each member of the group.
- There is no additional charge for using the backpacks.
- Reservations must be made by an adult (18+)
- Visitors will be asked to leave a driver’s license or other current form of ID as a deposit.
- Please note that backpacks are not available for checkout during special events
- Packs are designed for 1 – 4 children.
- Recommended ages 3 to 12 years old.
- Must be returned to the Welcome Center by 2 PM.
