Blithewold is a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay and is nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place Era. The property features a 45-room mansion filled with family heirlooms, and is framed by a series of lovely gardens that range in character from mysterious to exotic and from poetic to practical. The Ivy Leaf – Traditional Irish Music

Continue celebrating St. Patrick’s Day throughout the weekend with a musical performance by The Ivy Leaf, a traditional Irish band based in Boston and Providence, featuring fiddles, flute and whistle, concertina, bouzouki and guitar, and vocals.
Wine and refreshments will be served during intermission and are included in the price of each concert.

Portrait of a Garden: A Film Screening

Sunday, March 26
This exclusive screening is about a picturesque garden on a grand country estate, two long-time friends, an 85 year old pruning master and the gardener, tend to the espaliers. Surrounded by vegetable patches, citrus trees, the orchard, and lush grapevines, they talk about food, the weather, their craft (which is quickly disappearing), and the changing world around them. Capturing one year in the life of the historic garden, maginificent documentary Portrait of a Garden is a beautiful, transcendent viewing experience. In Dutch, with English subtitles.

The Chef’s Table Dinner Series

Join us for an intimate culinary experience. Guests have an opportunity to meet and enjoy a specially prepared menu by some of RI’s top young talent. Each dinner will be an expression of the individual chef’s unique style and will represent seasonal, local and preserved ingredients. Advance registration is required.

The Van Wickle family hosted many parties and celebrations at Blithewold. One of the most notable celebrations was Marjorie Van Wickle and George Lyon’s wedding, which took place on June 1, 1914, in an elegant outdoor ceremony in Blithewold’s Enclosed Garden.
